After being left with no options for my childs educational needs, I decided to take the advice of a deaf friend and contact the ADA. So, I called the ADA and they referred me to the Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights. I called there and was only able to leave a message, of which I did. I was called back within a few hours and told that my case would need to be handled by the Denver office. I took down the number and was transferred to the Denver office where I again left a message.
I then called my daughters teacher and asked a question. She mentioned that the Parent Connection was a place that could answer some of my questions and help me. I called The Parent Connection and left a message there too. Within a few hours I was called and was able to explain my frustration and ask for help. I was helped by another mother who has two sons with varying degrees of special needs.
After explaining a bit of my childs history and what was recently happening and how I would like to see the problems resolved, I was told that the Parents Connection rep would contact the Utah State Office of Education and see what could be done. Now, I am not sure exactly all that the Parent Connection does, but, so far I have gotten more help from them, than I have any other school or district office.
I am hoping that tomorrow I will hear from the Denver ADA office. If not, I will be calling them on Monday. I also will be waiting for the rep from the Parent Connection to return my call with more information and resources that she is able to gather from the Utah State Office of Education. I will be keeping a record of all these calls here on the blog.
