Our School District Doesn’t Care Enough To Do Their Job!

If our school district cared enough to do their job, they would not have pawned the last phone call off on USDB. Yes, I said it…Our district rep asked the USDB rep to call me and explain the “why’s”. I know that the district rep doesn’t want to have to deal with me. Apparently she remembers how upset I was with her when my daughter was in the districts preschool program. No matter what reasons she comes up with to dismiss what I have just said, it won’t matter. Her job is Special Needs children, and because it is, she should have known that funding was being cut for my daughter, and she should have been taking care of it long before I had to call her and inform her of the whole situation.

After my disucussion with the USDB representative, I called the Wasatch School District, and asked to talk to the rep. She was there, and I was able to talk to her about the call she pawned off on USDB, and also the options that had been discussed. After that legthy discussion and getting nowwhere, I asked what the school district was going to do. Her general response was that it wasn’t her problem and that USDB was responsible. She basically stated that I could take my child, ask a family or neighbor, or return my daughter to school in the district. I also mentioned that fact that USDB stated that a teacher could come up here, but that they also stated that would not help both my child and the other child that is currently riding whith my daughter to go to school.

Apparently our school district would love to have a program up here like there is in SLC, but, the likelihood of that is up for debate. As stated in a previous post, my daughters needs are not just for her hearing issues. I have no idea what the other childs needs are, but, there are at least 5 people that would need to be brought in on a daily or as needed basis for my child.

The call ended with the district rep saying that I shoudl do whatever I needed to in order to get the services for my daughter that she needed. I had mentioned that the 2 magic words that make state employees jump to attention would have to be said, and they would need to get their stuff together and figure it all out for my child. What are those 2 magic words? DUE PROCESS. She told me that she could not help me, that it wasn’t her responsibility because the district was not financially responsible for my daughter. I would need to go back to USDB. She also said that if I had to go the route of lawyers then that is what I should do.
