Lightweight Folding Wheelchairs for Travelling

Lightweight wheelchairs can weigh as little as 30 lbs and when folded down can be small. This can be great if your travelling to the doctors or shopping or even going for that next holiday as they can be nicely folded in the back of the car. Lightweight wheelchairs are designed for durability and safety and are technically more advanced than other standard wheelchairs.

Some features of typical folding lightweight wheelchairs

The wheelchair has a lightweight steel frame which weighs an approximate weight of 13 lbs and has fully padded upholstery. The armrests that are foam padded can be folded down to the seat level. There are alternatives to the folding type of wheelchair as they also have a rigid frame lightweight wheelchair.

Compared to rigid wheelchairs that don’t need to fold and hence can be adjusted to suit the person’s needs.

Due to this fixed design they normally are not that comfortable and are good for short trips and not for the whole day. But as they selling point has been they are light and ease transported they are still very popular with others.

Folding wheelchairs will need more maintenance than others as they fold and have many joints, and if not maintained. The frames are weak as they are thin to keep there weight down. The frames also bend easily as they are folded frequency.

Maintenance of all parts of your wheelchair is important and if not used often should be kept in the house and not left in the weather. You don’t want the day you require the wheelchair you find the nuts and bolts rusty and unable to unfold.
