Prima Plus at the Wodsworth Museum & Art Gallery

Thanks to movemanSKG, the Wordsworth Museum & Art Gallery in Grasmere, Cumbria, can accommodate less able visitors. A Prima Plus platform lift allows wheelchair users to access a newly refurbished gallery and the gift shop.

The Wordsworth Museum & Art Gallery celebrates the life of William Wordsworth, England’s best-loved poet who lived in the village over two hundred years ago. Its collection includes over 90% of Wordsworth’s surviving manuscripts, plus rare books and art by over 4,000 writers and artists.

Each year, around 70,000 people visit the Wordsworth Museum & Art Gallery to experience the wonderful exhibitions, and attend workshops, poetry readings, and lectures.

The Wordsworth Museum & Art Gallery is a service provider and must comply with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). Located externally, the Prima Plus platform lift means wheelchair users can overcome a short flight of stairs, which lead to the newly refurbished gallery and the gift shop.

“Less able people frequently come to visit, and we value their custom highly” says Carrie Taylor, Visitor Services Manager at the Wordsworth Museum & Art Gallery. “We pride our site on being wheelchair friendly, and ensure there are access routes to all exhibitions and facilities. movemanSKG’s Prima Plus serves our new gallery and gift shop well. It is essential to the normal operation of our site.”

Prima Plus is a freestanding, compact, electro-hydraulic platform lift suitable for indoor or outdoor use. The unit at the Wordsworth Museum & Art Gallery transports wheelchair users nearly a metre between the two levels, and features a smooth grey finish. This means the lift blends seamlessly into its surroundings. The platform handrails and upper landing gate have attractive glass infill.

Light, yet strong and durable, Prima Plus has a special protective coating that resists weathering and helps prevent corrosion. It lifts up to 300kg and has a small footprint, making it suitable for buildings with limited space.
