movemanSKG has supplied a Prestige platform lift to interiors contractor Laings, which recently spent over £300,000 converting the ground floor of its premises in Inverurie, Aberdeenshire into additional showroom space. The lift ensures the company complies with the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA). There are over ten million less able adults in the UK, who form an important part of the retail industry’s customer base. Making premises, goods and services accessible to them is ethical and makes good business sense. It is also a legal requirement. Thanks to movemanSKG, the Wordsworth Museum & Art Gallery in Grasmere, Cumbria, can accommodate less able visitors. A Prima Plus platform lift allows wheelchair users to access a newly refurbished gallery and the gift shop. The Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) gives disabled people important rights of access to everyday services. Service providers have an obligation to make reasonable adjustments to premises or to the way they provide a service. Sometimes it just takes minor changes to make a service accessible. |
